SIster Mitzi Gates // Week Forty-Two

A fabulous week!
Well on Monday I took the best nap of my life. It was the best feeling
not having to set an alarm, I slept for 2 amazing hours!
On Monday we did the Plan of Salvation with the Towrys, we got chalk
and everyone did their own! So fun. Grandma Towry who is not a member,
even stayed outside and listened! Also their daughter, Victoria who is
LA and kind of against the church also helped. It was great!
On Tuesday we helped Brother Seng clean out his storage shed. People
in the south just store the most random crap. I mean literal junk! He
had 3 storage sheds full. It's was an adventure! Haha
Then that night we visited Sister Burgess and she just had Surgery, we
were tracting in her subdivision and this crazy lady comes yelling at
us telling us to leave because it's a "no soliciting area" so we
tracted the neighborhood next to it. We had two more houses left and
the hour of tracting was up, but sometimes my curiosity gets the best
of me. So we did the last two and they were both miracles, the one guy
Ross accepted the Book of Mormon and said he would read it and was
interested. The next guy (I forgot his name) but he let us in and we
talked about EVERYTHING! Come to find out he is the Mayor! Haha so
that was cool. It was such a great experience to learn that by working
hard Heavenly Father prepares people for you to see.
We had to say goodbye to Cynthia McKelleb. She is moving to Kentucky!
She actually referred herself to get a free bible, and come to find
out she was a member. Also her family lives in St. George and I went
to high school with her Nephew. We helped her get free ancestory, (she
LOVES family history) we helped her get a copy of her patriarchal
blessing from salt lake, she came to church, and she was reading her
scriptures again. She said we were her angels. I love that crazy, no
teeth lady! It's so hard to say goodbye to the people you love and
care for. I love being a missionary.
So Josh............... We met with him on Thursday with Sister Dailey.
We always meet at the church and the first thing he says when he walks
in "I want to cancel my baptismal date, and I am going to go to check
out other churches" I WANT TO CRY. Seriously. He has had many
confirmations to him this is the place he needs to be! Why is Satan so
good? Well we asked him the baptismal interview questions and he
actually did really good on all. He loves his sweet tea though.... But
this will be good! He will see other churches, get different
experiences, and then he'll find out for himself. PRAY FOR HIM.
We had Zone Meeting this week in Madison. One of our zone leaders got
fired up a little to much and it was kind of funny. He was like going
crazy. I love zone meetings, they always make me want to do better!
We've been trying to meet with a less active, but her schedule is not
to open. So we decided to go pop in. Her step daughter, Layla, opens
and we talk to her. They come to church every now and then! They've
been coming almost twice a month! But I was like do you want to get
baptized? Haha she's 14 and goes to girls camp, young women's and
youth conference. She was like actually yeah I do! I've been talking
to my mom about it!! WAHOOOOOO! So were going to meet on Thursday and
hopefully set a baptismal date!! Miracles & blessings.
It's getting dang hot and humid here. We step outside and just start sweating!
Yesterday we needed to tract, so we said a prayer and both had a
feeling to tract over by he Towrys. Love it when hat happens. Then we
start tracting and I literally felt like I was being pushed in one
direction. We see this lady outside with her dog and start talking to
her. Pat is her name. She just lost her husband of 54 years of
marriage in December. She said she was having a hard day and started
to cry in front of us. Some how the spirit touched her and let us in
and we shared the plan of salvation. She believes that when we go to
heaven we will just be brothers and sisters, she won't know her family
or friends. That broke my heart. She started to cry again, I think it
brought her comfort knowing she will know who they are one day. I
can't even imagine being born into a family, raising a family, and
then all of a sudden you don't have one in heaven? I'm grateful for
the knowledge we have. I love the plan of salvation. It is my FAVORITE
thing to teach and talk about. I know it's true. Pat still believes in
her religion, but was open to hear our message.
What a great opportunity Heavenly Father gave us to be his instruments
in this great work. I have never experienced so much joy as bringing
someone the spirit in their home. When people are comforted by the
message, and have hope after. There is nothing, NOTHING greater than
that. Even if we are just planting seeds, it's amazing to be able to
do that.
I love being a missionary. I love you guys too. Hope the first day of
school goes well! I can't believe this is my second year not going
back to school... Weird! LOVE YOU!!
