Sister Mitzi Gates // Week Forty-Five

This week flew by so dang fast! Like where did it go?
Well it's been a good one. On Monday we went up to brother Benitez and
played soccer and ultimate frisbee. SO FUN! It felt so good to just
sweat. But then you don't stop, I've never sweated like I did before
here. Eh so sticky. But then we had FHE with the Towrys and grandma
towry who isn't a member sat in and said what she thought and it was
great! Slowly she is starting to be more open with us. The Towrys are
back sliding a little, so that's really sad.
On Tuesday we went and visited this lady Telena, she joined because of
the elders and she is CRAZY. I have never met anyone like her in my
life. Well long story short we visit her with the elders because she's
crazy and this time she told me off. I was talking to sister Svedin
while she was talking to elder chapman and oh my gosh. I just had to
bit my tongue and take it. I've never been so embarrassed as well. But
I don't know how I didn't just walk out, I for sure was being helped
at that time.
We also worked at the senior center and all the old guys kept hitting
on me. Ew.
On Wednesday sister Gregory took us out, it was raining like crazy.
And we still have no one to teach, so we went through our old area
book and found some people to try. So we go and try them and this guy
Fly (that's his nickname, his real name is Hugh) but we were able to
teach him the restoration and it was amazing., asked him if he wanted
a church tour another day and he said yes! We had high hopes for
Fly... But he never showed up to the church tour or church. Bummer.
On Thursday we were going some place and we needed to get gas. So we
stopped and got gas. Then the receipt never printed, so as I was going
inside I saw this lady crying in her car. So after I talked to her and
her husband just took their son and left, she has been on pain pills
since she was 15 and it's a big mess. It's hard when you can't really
help them with their problems, but I was able to share the Book of
Mormon with her and invite her to read it. I shared ether 12:27 and it
was a great experience. I specifically prayed to have a missionary
opportunity and Heavenly Father trusted me enough to let me be apart
of Jessica's life. I hope she reads it, I know she just wanted money,
but man I love the Book of Mormon.
Friday we were busy visiting less actives and that's always fun.
Saturday we went out to Carthage. We had a media referral and a couple
fair referrals out there. So we spent the day there. One of the fair
referrals was Ruby, we were able to teach her the restoration and gave
her a Book of Mormon. She even said we could come back and teach her
more! That's kind of hard though because she lives 45 minutes away. So
were going to be having a lot of member help with all these fair
referrals! Wahoo. We got 330 and 66 of them are for Lebanon! So that's
exciting.
Out in Carthage we also met a less active who is so solid. But lost
his way! So sad. He also said we could come back. People like him I
feel like just need someone to invite them back and have a friend
their and they'll come back.
On Sunday the Gregories talked in church and they were done super
fast, so brother mccown got up and said I need sister gates to come
bear her sister! Oh my. By the way President Abernathy was there on
the stand! I knew before he even said my name I was going up. So I
went up and bore my testimony. I really didn't know what to say, it
was the coolest experience though. I really truly felt the Holy Ghost
working threw me. So amazing.
Then we went to the Leon's and had a party for Mereanda going to
college! Wahoo. That was fun! Then we were heading out to Hartsville
and we stopped and talked to an investigator that we haven't been able
to catch at home. Such a tender mercy. We shared the restoration and
it was great. She believes in the trinity, that is just so hard to get
past. But all is well! She also said we could come back.
Later that night we drove to Hartsville because it's the end of the
month and we still had Miles! So we went and tried a few people. We
went to this one house and it was dark and we couldn't do see
anything. We both kind of questioned ourselves and then I just had
this feeling come over me like nothing before. We weren't suppose to
go there. I am so glad we're being protected. I don't know what of
happened. But I do know we weren't suppose to go.
This week I was also reading and praying to have some questions
answered. I kind of got frustrated and didn't think Heavenly Father
was hearing my prayers. But I opened my scriptures up and started to
read. Psalms 6:8-9 8 Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for
the Lord hath heard the voice of my weeping. 9 The Lord hath heard my
supplication; the Lord will receive my prayer. It was the craziest
thing. I know Heavenly Father hears and answers our prayers. Sometimes
it's completely different than we think, but it's always for the
better. I'm grateful we have the Holy Spirit to guide us and comfort
us. I love my mission. More than anything. I was reading A Miracle of
a Mission by Elder Holland. And he says that no young man has ever
been so changed by his mission than his own. I believe no young women
has ever been so changed by her mission aside from me. I love my
mission. It's the hardest dang thing I've ever done. But I love it. I
love my savior, I love the Book of Mormon and I love that we have a
latter day prophet. We get to go to the temple soon and I can hardly
wait! Why would you want to wait?
Well I hope you all have a great Labor Day off! Happy birthday to
Grandma Gates, Dad, and Travis this week!! I love you all so much:)
